For those that register, I will be sending out a little questionnaire to gain more insight into where you are in your photography, as well as an information sheet on  how to prepare for the workshop, what to bring, what to expect, a few rules and points of decorum when photographing in a group as well as an outline of subject matter we will be covering in the classroom situation.

Photographic Workshops with Mary Cornelius

 My latest news is that I have planned a few workshops for this summer.   The Wild Turkey Farm and Ringside at the Horse Show Workshops are tailored to the amateur hobbyist who loves exploring photography and would like to improve skills and personal vision.
 I also have a more advanced workshop for professionals and advanced amateurs who are interested in photographing lifestyle and senior portraits. With and without horses. 

A one day workshop for amateur hobbyists at the fabulous Wild Turkey Farm in Wilsonville, Oregon.
Date:  June 1, 2013
Classroom instruction. Photo shoot opportunities. Raise your photography to the next level. Workshop led by veteran international photographer Mary Cornelius.

This is an opportunity to photograph some of the beautiful Holsteiner horses that are bred on this world class private farm. Weather permitting, you will find yourself in a beautiful pasture, camera at the ready while frisky foals are turned out to play for you.
Indoor class time will include lectures and slide show examples of ways to raise your photographic skills. Time allowing, we will be sharing and discussing images that were created on the day.

Lots of Q & A opportunity during the photo sessions and the class room.

Feedback, personal goals and questions are welcome as part of your inquiry!

Participants should have a basic working knowledge of an SLR camera and a lens suitable for photographing horses at a distance. 70 - 200 mm lens is optimal.
Advice is available about renting a suitable lens for your camera if you do not have one. Just ask!

Emphasis will be on using your camera in manual mode so that you can learn to better control your image quality in different situations. Settings for stopping action and adjustments to make.

Small Business Saturday - New images and sale prices.

Since I returned from France in early October I have been playing catch up with my work. Plotting new adventures, found myself wrapped up in the Presidential election, showing my young dog Hartley and ...life kept happening!
I was poking around on some older hard drives and found this whimsical piece featuring my dog Dottie, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  My life, as well as I am sure, many of yours IS CIRCUS.
  In honor of Small Business Saturday, I have added this image to my Artworks sales gallery in the 11x14 prints  and mugs sections.  I have also lowered the prices on everything from prints, canvases, coffee mugs and greeting cards.  I have many more images to add, but shiny tings just keep floating by and off I go on another track.  But there are several images up now!

In early November I gave a presentation at the Oregon Dressage Society year end Awards Banquet.  I presented a slide show of the beautiful wild horses of the South Steens Wild Horse Management Area, talked a bit about what gets me fired up when photographing horses and showed a fast moving slideshow showing the raw power and energy of horses at liberty. The images were taken in Spain, Portugal, France and the Steens wild horses.  All accompanied by a rockin soundtrack from Tron by Daft Punk.  Lots of fun to create and present this presentation.

The gift giving holidays are coming up so I had better get back to work.  Until next time....  keep your sunny side up!

Holsteiners First and Then France

I will be photographing the AHHA Inspection this Saturday. That's American Holsteiner Horse Assn. for those of you that still like to read real words.  The inspection will take place at Wild Turkey Farm in Wilsonville and is expected to host 34 horses and all of the people that it takes to put on an inspection of this magnitude.  There is also usually a good crowd of spectators on hand.
 I will be photographing each horse that enters the ring up until 12:30 whereby my worthy assistant Tais Kulish will take over for me and finish photographing the remaining horses to be inspected as I must jet off to the airport to catch a plane that will take me to Toulouse France for the next 10 days. Actually, a small town about an hour outside of Toulouse by the name of Condom.  No relation to the prophylactic device, though they do have a Museum of Contraception there that I think will be a must see.
Southern France in the early Fall, staying in a medieval town with friends, sampling the food, wine and scenery, museums, architecture and .... well duh, horses!  Of course its horses, what else, this is WORK after all.

See you in early October.  If anyone is trying to contact me during this time and I appear non responsive, that is because I am incommunicadofor the most part, reduced to internet as I find time to bother with it. With any luck at all, I will post some updates and maybe a photo or two.  Though no promises.

Its Dogs this week

I've been spending so much time updating my Facebook page with my travels and images that I neglect my blog.  Facebook is so much more immediate and if the wind is blowing in the right direction on the right day, my updates reach a much wider audience. So there ya have it, blog neglect.  Who reads this stuff anyway?  Its pretty dry, I keep it pretty simple.  I went here, I took this photograph, I went there, I took that photograph. Not very exciting by the time I try to put it into words.  I even neglect my main website. Some of those images need to go and be replaced by new.  My eye and style evolves, so old images often look a bit foreign to me after awhile.

 So what have I been doing lately?   I have photographed some dressage shows and attended some dog shows with my pups.  Photographed some horses and dogs in private photo sessions.
I traveled to Southern California for a dog show with my Staffordshire Bull Terrier pup Hartley (he didn't win) and spent a day with actress Linda Blair photographing 17 of her almost 100 adoptable dogs.  Which WAS a win.
 For those that don't know, Linda has dedicated her life to dog rescue/rehabilitation and rehoming.   This is Linda with my pup Hartley.   Many areas of the country are submerged in overpopulation of pets.  In Southern CA there is quite a problem with the over breeding, with Chihuahuas and pit bull type dogs seeming to top the list.  Like most rescues, Linda is in desperate need of more help either in donations, foster homes or volunteers to come out and work with the dogs.   You can contact her   if you can help in any way.  They do good work and the sheer magnitude of the problem is overwhelming her facility and resources.  Below is goofy Clifford The Big Red Dog.  Someone cut his ears to make him look more...fierce? But forgot to tell him to act the part.  He gets along with people and dogs. He is a fairly tall guy.  Very impressive and nicely co-operative considering he was the last dog photographed and the sun was fully up and getting rather warm!  He is wearing his Fourth of July party outfit.

To the right is Munchkin.  An American Bully.  A personal favorite. When I first drove up, he was in an area near where I parked.  He greeted me happily and just wanted some love.  What a goofy happy cutie.   He is not very tall, but is thick as a brick.  American Bullies have been developed for "looks" not fighting or really being "badass".  English Bulldog, American Staffordshire Terrier and Mastiff helped develop this breed.  It is not an AKC breed.  They tend to sell for $2-4k and many end up in rescue to be had for $150 or so.  Sad.
